As a new rowing program we are dependent on our members to help with day to day operations
and ensure we are set up for success and future growth. It is a great chance to help determine
the direction of the club and build community within our organization. We ask all members to
dedicate 10 hours of their time each year (less than one hour per month!) to help with these
efforts. A great way to do that is to join one of our committees. Each committee will work with
our Board of Directors and Operations Manager to help move our organization
forward and engage with our community. Here are ways you can get involved!
Fundraising Committee
Fundraising is a key component of our club. While membership costs and class fees cover the
costs for running our classes, there are additional expenses that require ongoing fundraising
efforts. In addition, we feel strongly that our programming should be available to all, regardless
of ability to pay, so are committed to offering scholarships, for both adults and youth.
Roles for the Fundraising Committee:
- Planning and coordinating the fall auction fundraiser
- Coordinate fundraising nights at local breweries/wineries
- Organizing the spring scholarship drive
Social Committee
One of the great benefits of our rowing club is the opportunity to engage with each other and
establish a rowing community at the north end of Lake Washington. As the only rowing club
north of Lake Union, we have potential for engaging a large group of people who are interested
in rowing. The Social Committee can help create a welcoming environment for new members,
and provide social opportunities for our established members.
Roles for the Social Committee:
- Help develop community among the members of KCRC
- Plan happy hours, trivia nights, brunch at the boathouse, etc.
- Prepare new member orientation
Community Relations
In order to grow our club, we need to develop relationships with our community! Our boathouse
is a partnership between KCRC, the Northshore School District and the City of Kenmore. We
need to maintain open communications with these partners. As well, we need to introduce our
club to the community and help others discover rowing!
Roles for the Community Relations Committee:
- Attend local farmers markets and community functions as KCRC representatives
- Help coordinate volunteers for KCRC Open Houses and Introduction to Rowing days
- Work with the board to ensure KCRC’s interests are represented at meetings with NSD and Kenmore City Council
Safety Committee
It’s not glamorous, but safety is important! We need to ensure our classes are safe for our
participants. We need to have plans in place for when the unexpected happens. We need to
ensure our members have completed all required safety training. This is a great opportunity for
someone who has excellent record keeping skills and enjoys writing!
Roles for Safety Committee members:
- Update and maintain safety protocols
- Coordinate with Boathouse Manager regarding any equipment repairs
- Conduct quarterly inventories of safety equipment
We hope everyone will find something they care about to get involved with. If you are not able to
join a committee at this time, please add yourself to our “As Needed” volunteer list. We will
reach out when we have specific needs for volunteer help.
