Why Row?
Rowing is a total body workout. Rowing only looks like an upper body sport. Although upper body strength is important, the strength of the rowing stroke comes from the legs. Rowing is one of the few athletic activities that involves all of the body’s major muscle groups. It is a great aerobic workout, in the same vein as cross-country skiing and swimming, and is a low-impact sport on the joints.
KCRC will offer adult Learn-to-Row for new rowers this spring and summer on beautiful Lake Washington. We offer small group sessions where you’ll learn both sculling (two oars) and sweep rowing (one oar), practice on the rowing machines, learn the rowing terminology, and join a welcoming community in your area.
2024 Fall Learn to Row
Days of Week | Times | Dates | Sessions | Fee |
Tuesday Thursday | 6:00-8:00 AM | Oct 22, 24, 29, 31 Nov 5, 7, 12, 14 | 8 | $200 |
Requirements for Learn-to-Row are:
- Valid float test (required every 5 years).
- Register for LTR (registration will open when session dates are announced).
- US Rowing Membership ($20 renew/$25 new).
- KCRC Participant Photo Release.
- Annual review of USRowing Safety Video and signed attestation.
- Generally speaking, all rowers should be prepared to lift ~30 lbs overhead for a period of time. Don’t worry, we carry boats to and from the dock as a crew!
- While attending all practices is best, the first 2 sessions are absolutely required as we cover safety on/off the water, equipment, and terminology used throughout the remaining sessions. Once registered, each rower should indicate their attendance plan the night before so our coaches can plan for which boat we’re taking out (e.g., 4 vs. 8 person boat), volunteers needed, and the lineup.
To Register:
- Current KCRC members click here to register. (Or visit iCrew – Club Home / Registration Options)
- New rowers should first register for rowing in iCrew! Please sign up here using registration CLUB CODE: KRC2022. If you already have an iCrew account, be sure to log on rather than creating a new account
